Why every diver should aspire to become a Divemaster
Becoming a Divemaster is a dream of many scuba divers. It does sound pretty cool: being a master in diving! But what does a Divemaster
Scuba diving in the Philippines is amazing. Explore it from our PADI 5* CDC Dive Resort!
Liquid Dive Resort is a small boutique resort located on a secluded beach front in Dauin, home to some of the best diving in the Philippines. Established in 2011, Liquid Resort has evolved over the years. We have continuously expanded and improved our facilities, yet the one thing that remains constant is our staff. The heart and soul of Liquid. Our local team will welcome you with Filipino hospitality. You will arrive as a guest and leave as a friend.
The ocean has been our passion since the day we opened our doors. Our PADI 5* CDC dive center has won numerous PADI and PADI AWARE awards and has been a Green Fins member since 2019. Our in-house Institute for Marine Research (IMR), works closely with the local government and our local community to protect our corner of the Coral Triangle. Together we strive to be leaders in sustainable diving and resort practices in the Philippines.
Located only 20 minutes from Dumaguete city, Liquid is well equipped to cater for experienced divers, couples looking for a quiet retreat and families wanting a relaxing beach holiday. Whether you desire to take a course at our PADI 5* CDC dive center, read a book by one of our swimming pools, join a fitness class at our spacious gym, watch the sun rise on the beach front, utilize our co-work space, play a game of billiards, hike to waterfalls or indulge in a relaxing massage you will find the perfect place here at Liquid.
The Philippines lies in the Coral Triangle which is home to over 600 different reef-building coral species, creating one of the most diverse ocean environments on the planet.
Dauin coast has made a name for itself as one of the premier muck diving destinations in Asia. With over 30 different dive sites offering a wide array of critters, this area offers a little bit of everything for all levels of divers, whether you are beginner or professional photographer you will find be amazed by the diversity of the Dauin coast.
Liquid's house reef 'Mainit', is the best drift dive in Dauin, where you can encounter schools of barracuda, turtles, blue spotted rays, morays, healthy coral outcrops and schools of tropical fish. One of its most unique features is the natural hot spring that can be found towards the end of your dive. This unique experience is must dive for all our guests.
Only a short boat ride from Liquid is Apo Island, famous for being one of the first official Marina Protected Areas (MPA) in the country. Apo offers stunning coral reefs, abundant marine life, great walls and turtles on most dives. We recommend you join us on a 3 dive day trip, at least once during your stay
Liquid is an eco-friendly resort with ongoing environmental initiatives, we strive to be environmentally conscious both above and below the waves. For many years we have been a plastic free resort, we conduct dive site and beach clean-ups on a regular basis and our retail outlet only sells locally sourced and produced products.

I admit that I am biased – this was no less that my 7th visit there so you can tell that I clearly like the place. However with so many changes made in the years since its opening just about 7 years ago in November 2011, it would be easy for a place to forget its 'soul' at it grows and changes. Liquid has not forgotten; although it has morphed into something more than when it started. The 'wildness' has been replaced by a calming confidence coming from knowing that it does things well, meets and exceeds the needs of the guest and is always looking for further ways to improve. The resort now boasts 7 aircon rooms to add to the 8 fan rooms. The rooms are good value, with good storage space and a bed that at least I liked – mattresses firm – neither too hard nor too soft. The aircon rooms have a TV that have a large range of channels and can easily be used for your one film / music library through a USB connection. The central lodge which in earlier times served as the one and only 'gathering place' and watering hole, still serves a varied and appetizing breakfast as well as being an alternative chill-out space. The central lodge which in earlier times served as the one and only ‘gathering place’ and watering hole, still serves a varied and appetizing breakfast as well as being an alternative chill-out space.
In recent times a full independent bar has been added and the very good but perhaps restrictive menus of old, with fixed meal times, has been replaced with a large and wide menu serving food and snacks throughout the day as and when you want.
A large guest pool has also been added, complete with loungers and sun shades which is the perfect place to both cool-off and catch the last rays of the days as the sun sinks behind Mt Talinis. The great thing about the new pool is that it means the various diving students whether beginners or those going through Instructor Development have the original pool to themselves to practice in closed water the various skills required for certification.
The staff? always smiling and great fun – always helpful and professional. Of course it helps that I’ve been a guest so often but this visit I also found that there had been more of a staff turnover than in recent years but the warmth of the new staff was just as genuine as the ‘veterans’.
And the diving? It never fails to delight! I have a few favourite sites along the coast and the corals at Apo and Sumilon are as healthy as ever. Something for everyone but like everything in nature nothing can be guaranteed. (Apart from the turtles at Apo, and the octopus at Bonnets 🙂 )
Is everything perfect? Of course not…. but then again I know that there are plans and thoughts for further expansion with land next door which will address most – allowing for a camera room, guest diving equipment improvements and additional rooms and other services.
Whenever I leave – I always wonder if that will be the last time – however it never is and unlikely ever will be until I no longer am able to dive.
Zoe, Tim, Jim, Michelle and all – keep up the great work More read less

Email after email sent to dive centres in the area and within minutes, Tom from Liquid Dumaguete replied. To the point, no B.S answers to my initial questions. Second round of questions in regards to dives, dive locations and the like produced the same standard of: to the point, no B.S answers. Finally the cost: no messing around, to the point, no B.S answers. Not a Peso more was charged to me. I had two days of diving with a Dive Master called 'Ian' but he goes under many other names for some reason. Anyway, Ian as I knew him is a great guy, my type of Dive Master, not pushy, identifies those who need him to assist and lets the others do their own thing but keeps a close eye on both. Ian has eyes like a hawk and uses them to point out the smallest of macro but also understands who is interested in what so tailors his attention accordingly. For an old sea frog like me, Ian could not have been better: there if I need him, there if I don't but discretely and not glued to my fins. All in all my experience with Liquid Dumaguete was first class, good condition gear, good service, great team: would not hesitate to recommend Liquid Dumaguete or hesitate to visit again.
One small constructive comment: They really need some better and bigger thermos for coffee as it ran out or was p155 warm

I was there for four days doing some really cool muck diving. I didn’t get to go to Apo, but the muck diving was more than enough for me. Do you have a scuba bucket list? If yes, the Philippines is probably already on it (if not, it should be!). But have you already
I feel this needs to be bunched together as not all fins require boots. Open heel vs closed heel fins Personally I prefer to have
The Institute for Marine Research (IMR) is a grassroots non-profit organisation located in the heart of the coral triangle, and Liquid Dive Dumaguete. The Institute conducts long-term and fine-scale research on the coral reef ecosystem that fringes the Dauin coastline, whilst also carrying out marine conservation and restoration initiatives to preserve Dauin’s inshore reef for decades to come.
